Panic Disorder Therapy

Panic attacks come suddenly, out of nowhere, for no apparent reason. This is a very intense and frightening experience. Many people seek medical help thinking it is a heart attack.

Symptoms during panic may include:

  • pounding heart
  • feeling short of breath, smothering or choking
  • sweating, chills or hot flushes
  • shaking, trembling and feeling dizzy
  • chest pain and numbness
  • fear of dying, losing control or going crazy

If left untreated, these attacks may become panic disorder. Avoidance of certain places or situations can worsen into debilitating agoraphobia.

Luckily, treating panic disorder in therapy is relatively easy and quick, if done right.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is recogmended by the Ameircan Psychiatric Association as an effective treatment for panic disorder.
